What Is Medical Massage?

Medical Massage is defined as an outcome-based therapy designed to produce specific outcomes relative to specific pathologies.

Unlike wellness or 'spa' massage sessions, during which the client is typically a passive recipient of massage therapy, medical massage sessions require the patient to be an active participant following any instructions given by the therapist, as well as paying attention to how his or her body feels and giving feedback when appropriate.

Medical Massage may include some of the same techniques offered in some wellness massage sessions.

Medical Massage marries both the intuition and science of massage therapy while providing a specific treatment or treatments for a specific problem. Once the foundational detailed evaluation has been taken, the true detective work for which medical massage is known can begin.
